                                                     Gentrification in Costa Rica

Recently, there has been a lot of talk about gentrification in some coastal areas of Costa Rica, like Nosara, Tamarindo, Santa Teresa, and Monteverde. Gentrification happens when wealthy people or businesses move to an area and make it more expensive. This causes local people to move away because they can no longer afford to live there.

In places like Tamarindo, many new hotels, restaurants, and houses are being built for tourists. While this is good for businesses and the economy, it is making it harder for local people to find affordable homes. The cost of living has gone up, and some families have to move to other places where it is cheaper. This is a big problem because it takes away the character of the local communities.

Another issue is the environment. As more people visit these areas, there is more pollution, and the natural beauty of the place can be damaged. Many people love Costa Rica for its nature and wildlife, but the increasing development is hurting the environment.

It is important for the government and businesses to find a way to balance tourism with protecting local communities and the environment. They should help the local people stay in their homes and keep Costa Rica beautiful for future generations.
